ONBOARDING & RULES
Setup & Rules | FAQ | Apply | Mod Contact | Calendar

Here is a quick step-by-step of our onboarding process for new players. We try to keep things as simple and streamlined as possible, but if you have any questions, please let a moderator know!

NEW PLAYER CHECKLIST

  • Once you've read through this checklist and our rules listed below, you're more than welcome to join any of our public memes such as the TDM or DreamNet mini meme at any point during your application process! Our most recent one can be found on [community profile] idream_ofmemes

  • If everything checks out for you, get started with the onboarding process by posting your app to the Applications page to fill out your application. This step will need to be done each time you wish to add a new character. Please see guidelines for character claiming on the aforementioned page!

  • [OPTIONAL, BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!] If you're willing and able, please join us on our social media to get important updates! We have a Plurk that you can follow, but we are more active on Discord. Please request a link from a mod if you'd like to join!

  • When your application is approved, go to the Taken page and fill out the small blurb there. You will also need to do this each time you add a new character. There is currently no cap to how many characters a player can claim, just keep it within reason!

  • Send requests to join the communities: [community profile] perchancetodream_logs and [community profile] perchancetodream_ooc. A mod will accept these requests at our earliest convenience. (Our meme community, [community profile] idream_ofmemes, does not require a request, as all posts are public.)

  • Once your application and comm requests are approved, you can browse and post freely on the private comms and will have full membership access. Have fun!

  • RULES & COMMUNITY STANDARDS

    1. STAY INFORMED | It is each player’s responsibility to be aware of the rules. They aren’t comprehensive as unplanned situations may arise, but they are subject to change, and players will always be notified of all changes. We’ve done our due diligence by writing all this out, please do yours by staying informed!

    2. THIS TALL TO RIDE | You must be over the age of 18 to play as this game can include occasional NSFW. Characters should also ideally be adults, but we will make exceptions provided that underage characters fade to black in age-appropriate NSFW situations and do not engage in such situations with legal adults. Any violations of this will result in disciplinary action.

    3. STRIKE SYSTEM & BANS | Failure to adhere to these rules will result in a strike, of which you have three. Mods also reserve the right to circumvent the strike system and automatically ban players for issues that they determine to be extremely severe. We will always try to warn and/or discuss issues before administering strikes, but we’re also grouchy old people and we don’t have the energy for drama.

    4. COMMUNICATION & COMPASSION | Because roleplay is inherently social and collaborative, it’s key that you not only communicate with one another, but do so compassionately and with each others’ best interest at heart. If you run into issues with another player, whether they are RP-related or interpersonal, please do your best to resolve them between yourselves maturely and with grace. Please also be forthcoming with your mods--- it’s impossible for us to keep an eye on everything all the time, and your communication is valuable!

    5. INCLUSION IS IMPERATIVE | No one likes to feel left out. While it is not always possible and no one is going to force you to do anything you don’t want to, if you see a thread with no tags, please consider dropping a line.

    6. COMMON SENSE CONTENT WARNINGS | As a courtesy to other players, we ask that you always apply content warnings or trigger warnings when appropriate! We will keep a running list of subjects on this page that need to be warned for that mods can add to if specific people have specific warnings they would like applied. Please make sure your content warnings are prominently visible!

    7. UNSAFE CONTENT | While we want everyone to have fun, explore, be creative, and do what makes them happy, there is some content that we do not feel comfortable hosting in our community. No judgment on anyone, some things just don't fly in the spaces we curate, for the sake of our own mental health and safety. Because this overlaps with a number of triggers, we have a content blacklist available, seen below.

    8. DON’T BE A DICK | You know, the usual junk. Don’t powergame/god-mod/info-mod, don’t try to force scenarios on other players that make them uncomfortable, don’t harass anyone. Absolutely no bigotry of any kind.

    9. THE ROGER RABBIT RULE | Many characters here are going to have abilities and powers that may come across as OP. We don't want to limit your characters too much, as they should be able to be as much themselves as possible in the Dreamscape and we are not terribly strict people. Also, we'll do just about anything for the bit. So when it comes to character powers, so long as it's not game-breaking or rendering the prompt's rules useless, assume that all powers function on the Roger Rabbit rule. If you have any questions on what this means for you, please don't hesitate to ask!

    10. DREAM BIG, DREAM OFTEN | Please try to stay active! We’re all in this together, and an RP community is nothing without people in it, writing! Also, please feel free to make suggestions for activities and events!

    11. HAVE FUN!

    BLACKLIST

Despite the name, the "blacklist" is not a list of disallowed content--- just a list of sensitive topics that are common triggers. We ask that if your post contains any of these subject matters, please prominently place a courtesy warning on your post so that anyone reading along, including your thread partner, can make informed decisions about what is safe for them to read. Items in bold are known triggers belonging to current players, and are especially important.

If you have an important trigger you would like added to the list, please contact a mod and we will edit it in right away. Your safety is important to us!

    SENSITIVE CONTENT

    • Suicide or suicidal ideation

    • Gratuitous violence, gore, graphic injury

    BANNED CONTENT
As previously mentioned, for safety reasons we do not allow certain interactions to appear in threads. This does not refer to discussion of these things happening in the past or your character's memories. They can still appear in conversations or memories with appropriate content warnings. This only means that we do not allow threads that contain characters actively doing these things. Refusal to comply will result in disciplinary action.

    ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Overall content warnings for the game include: occasional NSFW (in marked threads), unreality, dissociation, and other psychological horror themes.

  • The term bigotry is officially defined by Perchance to Dream as "any ill-intentioned or willfully-ignorant behavior targeted at a player or character that is harmful to them on the basis of physical appearance, protected classes, or other marginalized characteristics." It does not include accidents or honest mistakes. However, after you are informed that an action is harmful, if the behavior repeats, it will be considered willful ignorance and therefore bigotry.

  • We take player safety extremely seriously and we are not willing to compromise. All rules and blacklist content applies to the Discord server as well. Thank you for your understanding!
